The Weather Watch has sent us a new weather forecast for the Laugavegur trail tomorrow. Now a slightly fresher headwind is expected than yesterday for most of the trail up to 20 mph (9 m/s) at Hrafntinnusker. Some rain is forecasted for most of the trail and also at the start. This is not a very bad weather but it is cold so you should bring winter running clothing like we have recommended before. Click here to see the weather forecast on a map.
We have now received a weather forecast for the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon on Saturday. Veðurvaktin (the weather watch) made the forecast and we will get an update tomorrow.
This Thursday morning the weather forecast expects gentle wind from S and SW (headwind). Up to moderate wind, 8 m/s near highest peak at Hrafntinnusker. Likely dry at the start, but overcast. Some rain through Hrafntinnusker. Later periods of rain, broken or overcast sky, but probably spells of a sun. Click here for a map of the trail including the weather forecast.
Since the weather in this area can change fast it is important to have ready the equipment recommended before. It is also important to put a bag of warm clothing inside the race bus in Landmannalaugar. This bag will be transported to the finish line in Þórsmörk and will be available for you when you finish the race. See further information about baggage here.
It is a necessity that each runner carries his/her own water bottles, energy gels, and other food despite there being refreshment stations along the way. Carrying salt tablets or a teaspoonful of salt in a plastic bag which can be taken a few grains at a time and washed down with water has also proven to be successful. Refreshment stations will be at Hrafntinnusker, by Álftavatn, on the sands by innri Emstruá (river), in Emstrur, by Ljósá and by Þröngá.
There is a strict prohibition against throwing any kind of litter along the way. Each and everyone has to take care of not losing their gel wrapper and drinking cups as well as all other kinds of packaging. Litter can be left at the refreshment stations or at the finish line.
