Participants in the 2017 Laugavegur Ultra Marathon have been split up into four start groups. The groups will start the race with five-minute intervals. By doing this, we hope to improve the accuracy of finish times and to reduce congestion both at the beginning of the race where the path is narrow and also at the drink stations along the course.
Click on the start groups to see the names of the runners in each group.
Yellow group - starts at 9:00 (lineup starts at 8:45)
Red group - starts at 9:05 (lineup starts at 8:50)
Green group - starts at 9:10 (lineup starts at 8:55)
Blue group - starts at 9:15 (lineup starts at 9:00)
Please place your race number at waistline or higher and always keep it in front. This will help the race staff to give you faster and better service when they have to tear off parts of the number at the start in Landmannalaugar, at the security count in Emstrur and Alftavatn and at the finish line in Thorsmork.
Latest news from the Laugavegur trail is that it has been opened and hikers have started walking the trail. The weather always causes some uncertainty due to increased water flow in the rivers and layers of snow. Participants should expect running in snow 3-4 km before and after the highest peak, Hrafntinnusker. The weather in Iceland is very unpredictable so please be well prepared and take winter running clothing with you to Iceland.
The photo above shows the essential equipment that all Laugavegur Ultra Marathon runners should bring with them to the start. Runners must have available a minimum of a long-sleeved top, long tights or trousers, jacket, gloves and warm head gear to cover both head and ears. Off-road running shoes are recommended and dry fit or wool socks that keep your warm despite being wet are a must since you will get wet. Runners experience have shown that it is good to wear gaiters to prevent snow and gravel from going inside your shoes (see example here).
Runners that want the race staff to bring their bag to the mid-point should be aware that regular plastic bags are not accepted and note that the bag can maximum weigh 3 kg and should be no bigger than 20x35 cm. See further information here.
All runners taking part in the 21st Laugavegur Ultra Marathon on July 15th 2017 are encouraged to read the race information guide. Click here to download the guide (pdf file).
