We have now received a weather forecast for the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon on Saturday. Veðurvaktin (the weather watch) made the forecast and we will get an update tomorrow.
This Thursday morning the weather forecast indicates that northerly winds will be dominating over the island and that we will have a nice weather for running. Wind speed is relatively low on the trail and visibility mostly good. Sunny even, except for on the highest part of the route near Hrafntinnusker, where fog might be expected. Click here for a map of the trail including the weather forecast.
There is still snow on parts of the trail from the start point in Landmannalaugar and until Álftavatn (22 km). The snow is continuous around the highest peak, Hrafntinnusker (4 km before and 4 km after). Although the weather forecast is good for runners our previous instructions about what to wear are the same because of all the snow that can melt to ice. Note that when you get to Bláfjallahvísl (mid-point) you have the option of dropping off clothes that you don't need any more. After that point the trail is easier and has no snow. It is also important to put a bag of warm clothing inside the race bus in Landmannalaugar. This bag will be transported to the finish line in Thorsmork and will be available for you when you finish the race. See further about baggage here.
It is a necessity that each runner carries his/hers own water bottles, energy gels and other food despite there being refreshment stations along the way. Carrying salt tablets or a teaspoonful of salt in a plastic bag which can be taken a few grains at a time and washed down with water has also proven to be successful. Refreshment stations will be at Hrafntinnusker, by Álftavatn, on the sands by innri Emstruá, in Emstrur, by Ljósá and by Þröngá. There is a strict prohibition against throwing any kind of litter along the way, it can be left at the refreshment stations.
All participants must pick up their race package for the 2015 Laugavegur Ultra Marathon in Laugardalsholl sports hall (address: Engjavegur 8, 104 Reykjavik). The opening hours are Thursday July 16th between 12:00-17:00 and Friday July 17th between 9:00-17:00.

Runners are among other things agreeing that they have studied the race rules here. Those who are unable to make it to the race package pick up and want to send their representative instead must send him/her with the agreement signed by the runner. Click here to download the agreement.
Luggage to be transported to Bláfjallakvísl (mid-point) must be dropped off at Laugardalsholl sports hall (when package pick-up is open). It is very important that the mid-point luggage is brought to the staff before 17:00 on Friday. Regular plastic bags are not accepted and not that the bag can maximum weigh 3 kg and should be no bigger than 20x35 cm. See further information here.
