Service on the route

The main drinking- and refreshment stations are by Hrafntinnusker, Álftavatn lake, Emstrur and by the finish line in Húsadalur valley, Þórsmörk where participants can have water and Powerade to drink and bananas to eat. There will also be chocolates and Coca Cola in Emstrur and by the finish line in Húsadlaur valley, Þórsmörk. Organizers also provide drinks in few other places on the track, on the sandy fields, by Kápa and Þröngá river. Participants can also drink the water from the streams on the track.

At the drinking- and refreshment stations race officials will have paper cups ready with either water or Powerade in them. We want to encourage all participants to only use one cup each at every drinking station and to put the cups into the bins provided at the location, this way you can help us keep the area clean and be nature friendly. All the drinking- and refreshment stations are outdoors and it can be a challenge for our staff to keep the light cups to fly away with the wind after they have been used. Those participants that can, are encouraged to carry their own reusable cup with them through the whole track.

Portable toilets

There will be portable toilets in or by Landmannalaugar, Hrafntinnusker, Álftavatn lake, Emstrur and Húsadalur, Þórsmörk. It is forbidden by law to leave any human waste on the track and all participants are kindly asked to bring bags with them if needed when there are no portable toilets around. At the start in Landmannalaugar runners are asked to show consideration and let the first start group use the toilets first. This is done to ensure that everything goes smoothly and all runners are ready at the correct time.

Head count and security service

Race officials are in charge of the headcount on the course that takes place by Álftavatn lake and the Emstrur hut and make sure to follow through with the cut-off time rules. They will also assist when assistance is needed when participants need to cross rivers

Mid point bag

The extra luggage that participants can have waiting for them at the mid point, by Bláfjallahvísl will be transported there from Reykjavík the day before the race. After everyone has passed the mid-point, the bags will be taken straight to Reykjavík. Read more about the extra luggage here.

Race officials

The Reykjavik Marathon organizers are in charge of organising the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon, they will be by the start line when you start your race in Landmannalaugar and by the finish line in Húsadalur, Þórsmörk. Race officials and volenteers all around the course are members of running groups in Selfoss called Frískir Flóamenn as well as rescue team members from Selfoss. This is a group of 50 people, both men and women, and they have 5 mountain cars with them that will service the participants on the course. Other volunteers will be located in Húsadalur, Þórsmörk by the finish line and most of them are runners them selfs and few of them have taken part in the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon. There will be a doctor and a few nurses by the finish line as well as volunteers that are runners them selfs.

Because of a given reason, we would like to point out to all participants that during the course there will be times where no race officials or volunteers will be at eyesight. We expect everyone participating to have read all the course direction information provided and that they will be properly equipped in case of an accident or other unforeseen incidents if they need to wait for some time for help to reach them.
