    The 2017 Suzuki Midnight Sun Run will take place on Friday June 23rd. Participants can choose between three distances. On-line registration starts in January 2017.
  • Geothermal pool

    Close by the start and finish of the race is one of the city’s wonderful geothermal outdoor swimming pools, Laugardalslaug. All participants are invited to the swimming pool, hot tubs and steam baths after the race. It's a perfect way to relax after a successful race in the midnight sun. 
  • Three distances

    In the Suzuki Midnight Sun Run you can choose between three distances; half marathon, 10 km race and 5 km race. The rout has some great viewings like the salmon river Ellidaa, lake Raudavatn, and a beautiful golf course. The race starts in Laugardalur valley which is in full bloom this time of year.

The 2012 Suzuki Midnight Sun Run

On June 21st the Suzuki Midnight Sun Run was held. The weather that evening was beautiful as runners ran under the midnight sun. This was the twentieth Midnight Sun Run and the birthday was celebrated with a new name, a new distance and new courses as well as setting a participation record. 

1.990 runners were registered but the old participation record was 1.500. 5 km was the most populous distance with 1.028 participants. 803 were registered for the 10 km run and 159 runners took part in the first half marathon in the Midnight Sun Run. 

 

The winners in the half marathon were Þorbergur Ingi Jónsson and Melkorka Árný Kvaran. Þorbergur Ingi ran on his best time and Melkorka Árný was rather close to her best. Amongst the men Arnar Pétursson was second on his best time and the British Andrew James Whittingham came third. The second woman was Guðrún Bergsteinsdóttir with a time close to her best and Ragnheiður Sara came third in her first half marathon. 

In the 10 km run Arndís Ýr Hafþórsdóttir and Björn Margeirsson won. Fríða Rún Þórðardóttir was in second place amongst the women and Eva Margrét Einarsdóttir in third place. Tómas Zoëga Geirsson came second amongst the men and Ingvar Hjartarson third. 

 

Sæmundur Ólafsson and Helga Guðmundsdóttir won the 5 km run. Sæmundur ran on his best time and Ármann Eydal Albertsson who was in second place did that too. Þórólfur Ingi Þórsson came third amongst the men. Amongst the women it was Tinna Sigurðardóttir who was in second place and Barbara Björnsdóttir was in third place.

Reykjavik Marathon is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1984. Reykjavik Marathon organizes three events every year: Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon in August, Laugavegur Ultra Marathon in July and Suzuki Midnight Sun Run in June.
