The 2016 Suzuki Midnight Sun Run took place on Thursday June 23rd. We are very pleased to see that, acording to the survey we sent after the race, we have very happy runners. 97% of the runners will recommend the race to their friends and family.

The 2017 Suzuki Midnight Sun Run will take place on Friday June 23rd 2017. Registration for the race starts in January 2017.

Picture Overlook

Now that there is almost one month since the Suzuki Midnight Sun Run took place we would like to look back on all the great pictures that where taken that night. We have been posting a lot of pictures to our facebook page that you can browse through here. This years Instagram picture contest has now officialy ended and we have picked out three participants and they have been notified. Below you can see their pictures.

Three course records tonight

The 2016 Suzuki Midnight Sun Run took place tonight. The weather was perfect for running, light wind and no rain. Three course records were set; in the male half marathon, female 10k and female 5k.

The total number of registered participants was 2640, 1247 in the 5k, 782 in the 10k and 611 in the half marathon. Never before have so many runners from outside Iceland participated in the race, they were around 900 from 50 different countries. Most of the international guest came from USA, UK, Canada and Germany.

First three finishers in each distance are the following:

Half marathon - male

1. Benjamin P Zywicki (USA), 01:07:47
2. Kári Steinn Karlsson, 01:09:29
3. Harry Lupton (IRL), 1:13:25

Benjamin won the half marathon on a new course record.

Half marathon - female

1. Sigrún Sigurðardóttir, 01:33:23
2. Helen Keeley (GBR), 01:33:50
3. Bergey Stefánsdóttir, 01:34:54

Sigrún ran on the course 4th best time.

10k - male

1. Ingvar Hjartarson, 33:57
2. Hugi Harðarson, 34:39
3. Þórólfur Ingi Þórsson, 35:32

Ingvar ran on the course 4th best time

10k - female

1. Arndís Ýr Hafþórsdóttir, 37:40
2. Andrea Kolbeinsdóttir, 38:55

Arndís won the 10k on a new course record.

5k - male

Guðlaug Edda won the 5k on a new course record.

Take part in the 2016 Instagram contest

We saw so many amazing pictures in last years Instagram photo contest that we are going to do the same this year. Share your Suzuki Midnight Sun Run experience by taking part in our Instagram game. If you tag @midnightrunis in your photos and use the hashtag #midnightruniceland you can be one of three people to win a 10.000 ISK gift certificate for the Reykjavik Marathon races (valid for 3 years).

Registration and number pick-up in Laugardalshöll

The 2016 Suzuki Midnight Sun Run takes place tonight on Thursday June 23rd. On-line registration for the race is now closed but registration will be possible today in Laugardalsholl (big white sports hall), Engjavegur 8, 104 Reykjavik from 16:00 until no later than 45 minutes before the start of each race. Registered runners have to pick up their registration package (number, chip, etc.) at same place. See location here on a map.

The start times for tonight are following:

21:20 Half marathon starts
21:50 5 km race starts
22:00 10 km race starts

Prizes will be handed out at the finishing area by the old laundry springs. The prizes are given by Suzuki, Camelbak, Under Armour, Powerade and Reykjavik Marathon. See map of finish and start area here.

Free admittance to one of the geothermal baths and pools in Reykjavik, Laugardalslaug swimming pool, is included in the entry fee. Runners will find a ticket for the swimming pool in their registration package. The ticket is only valid on June 23rd. Participants can enter the pool until 00:30 and it will be open until 01:00.

Here you can follow live results from the race. Note that these are only preliminary results that are updated every 10 seconds. Official results will be published at marathon.is no later than 2 o’clock after midnight.

On-line registration closes soon

The 24th Suzuki Midnight Sun Run will take place on Thursday June 23rd 2016. On-line registration for the race is open here at marathon.is but ends at midnight on Wednesday June 22nd. Runners are encouraged to register on-line because the entry fee is higher if registered on race day.

The Suzuki Midnight Sun Run has three distances:

Half marathon - starts at 21:20
10 km - starts at 22:00
5 km - starts at 21:50

After the race all participants are invited free of charge to Laugardalslaug geothermal pool. It is a perfect place to relax after a good race in the bright summer night.

Review your registration

The 2016 Suzuki Midnight Run takes place on Thursday, June 23rd. Registered participants are encouraged to visit 'your page' here at marathon.is to review their phone number and register their running group.

Results in a text message

Runners with registered mobile number will receive their results in a text message shortly after crossing the finish line. Please note that these are unofficial results. Official results will be posted on our website no later than 02.00 am. You can register one phone number only but it does not have to be your own phone number, it could be someone waiting for you by the finish line or even in a different country. If the phone number you want to register is not Icelandic you will need to add 00 and your country code in front of the phone number.

Participants can register a phone number or edit/see the one you have already registered by logging into 'your page'. Please note that 'your pages' will be closing at midnight on Wednesday June 22nd. We will also offer those who need to change/add a phone number to do so at the number pick up on race day.

Running groups

Those who want their running group to appear in the final results list can register their running group name at 'your page'. The running group registration is located under actions – web info.

Participant list

Here you can find a list of all registered participants that wanted their name listed. If you want to change your settings you need to log into 'your page' and go to actions – web info.

About Reykjavik Marathon

Reykjavik Marathon is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1984. Reykjavik Marathon organizes three events every year: Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon in August, Laugavegur Ultra Marathon in July and Suzuki Midnight Sun Run in June.
