Latest news from the Laugavegur trail is that there is are solid layers of snow 3-4 km before and after the highest peak, Hrafntinnusker. Signs in this area are also under snow but we will put out orange flags along the way so no one should get lost. Because of the snow and that the weather in Iceland is very unpredictable we ask all runners to be well prepared and take winter running clothing with them to Iceland.
The photo below shows the essential equipment that all Laugavegur Ultra Marathon runners should bring with them to the start. Runners must have available a minimum of a long-sleeved top, long tights or trousers, jacket, gloves and warm headgear to cover both head and ears. Off-road running shoes are recommended and dry fit or wool socks that keep your warm despite being wet are a must since you will get wet. Runners experience have shown that it is good to wear gaiters to prevent snow and gravel from going inside your shoes (see example here).
Luggage to be transported to Bláfjallakvísl (mid-point) must be dropped off at Laugardalsholl sports hall (when package pick-up is open). It is very important that the mid-point luggage is brought to the staff before 17:00 on Friday. We do not accept regular plastic bags and note that the bag can maximum weigh 3 kg and should be no bigger than 20x35 cm. See further information here.
All Laugavegur Ultra Marathon runners should read the 2018 race information guide carefully. Click here to find the information guide.
